Introducing
Interactive Equine Tai Chi

An online Program for people who have a passion for helping people with their horses, but in a way that is supportive to their horses as well as to their clients.

This Program may be of interest to you if:
1. You are an equine therapist or facilitator and you help people with either your own horses or other people's horses.
And you would like to offer activities to your clients that are supportive to your horses as well as to the people you serve.
2. You help people with all abilities, and you would like to able to offer something that is inclusive to people with neurological conditions.
Tai Chi works on the nervous system and it's beneficial for many neurological conditions including Autism.
3. You teach children with learning differences and with all abilities.
This course has different levels for learning Interactive Equine Tai Chi and you will learn how to adapt your teaching to people with different levels of ability. As children learn more, then you can teach them more.
4. You help children who are keen learners and look forward to building on their knowledge each week.
Tai Chi provides an excellent way for students to gain confidence each week, in their own ability to learn, while increasing their, coordination, flexibility and balance. Each week they can learn new movements in the sequence of Interactive Equine Tai Chi and consolidate their skill.
5. You love helping people with horses, as horses have given so much to you, you want to share with others.
But it is important to you that the welfare of your horses is not compromised in any way.
Who is giving the training?

Hi, I'm Jenny Pim!
I'm the creator of Equestrian Tai Chi. I'm a Certified Tai Chi Instructor registered with the Tai Chi Union for Great Britain and a Certified Riding Coach registered with Horse Sport Ireland. I also volunteered with the RDAI (Riding for the Disabled Association Ireland) for two years and held a weekly Tai Chi class for Members from the National Council for the Blind in Ireland (NCBI) for two years.
My passion is to bring what I learn from Tai Chi and Taoist Arts to help people and horses together and to help people to develop and enhance their relationships with their horses, whether it be riding, on the ground or in their ordinary day to day connections with them.
Interactive Equine Tai Chi is the program I've developed for Equine Therapists and Facilitators who would like to learn the practices in Interactive Equine Tai Chi themselves and to learn how to teach them to the people they help.
It may also suit Therapeutic Riding Instructors who wish to teach an unmounted Program to their students.
What is Interactive Equine Tai Chi?
Interactive Equine Tai Chi is Tai Chi that is designed for either a teacher and student to practice together near a horse or pony, or for a client to practice on their own near a pony. It is to allow the students to build a special bond with the pony.
Once the student knows how to practice and is able to practice on his or her own near the horse, then the student can practice without the teacher opposite them. Or it may be that the student will still wish to practice with the teacher even if they do know how to practice the movements.
I developed the interactive form of Tai Chi where you practice with another person near a pony, during a weekly class with one of my students, Zion, who is autistic.
Like many people who are autistic, Zion is affectionate and caring and he loves animals and they have a natural affinity with him.
By practicing together near the horse, it had so many benefits, it helped him to relax, to focus and concentrate, to make eye contact. It also was a way of showing him how his practice could affect another, to notice as the horse would often visibly relax in our practice and then become unrelaxed, should the rhythm of our practice be suddenly interrupted.
Benefits of Interactive Equine Tai Chi
Interactive Equine Tai Chi has many elements which contribute to its benefits, whether you practice with another person near a horse or just on your own near a horse.
It combines the positive effects of the therapeutic energy and presence of the horse with the benefits of Tai Chi.
Tai Chi works on physical, emotional, mental and energetic levels. As well as stretching and lengthening muscles, other benefits include include improved balance, posture, coordination, concentration and flexibility.
It improves balance and motion coordination with focussed attention. Tai Chi increases confidence and improves general Well Being.
The practice has a calming effect on the person and on the horse or pony.
It's a mutual practice, where the human's practice benefits the pony as well as him/herself, and in turn the human receives the magnified effects of the calm energy of the horse!
The energy moves through our thoughts and emotions as well as our body when we practice, bringing them to the surface, making it easier for us to feel them, and so our practice can help to balance them.
It helps to develop a bond between the human and the horse or pony and allow them to feel empathy for each other on many levels that develops a bond and is nurturing for them both.
It give the child/person the opportunity to interact with other beings in a way that he/she would normally not have and to benefit from the wonderful presence and energy of the horse.
Here is what you will learn in the Interactive Equine Tai Chi Program
The Program has three core practices:-
- Interactive Equine Tai Chi
- Interactive Equine Chi Gung
- Taoist Breathing

1. Interactive Equine Tai Chi
In the Program you will learn the Interactive Equine Tai Chi Form and Interactive Equine Chi Gung Exercises. The Interactive Equine Tai Chi Form is a sequence of movements performed in a flowing manner, while the Interactive Equine Chi Gung Exercises are single movements, that are repeated multiple times, they are generally symmetrical and are easy to learn.
The Interactive Equine Tai Chi Form is a sequence of movements performed in a flowing manner. Each movement has a different name and energy pattern associated with it, that brings energy to the places in the body, that it's important for it to have good health!
2. Interactive Equine Chi Gung
While the Equine Tai Chi Form is a sequence of movements, Equine Chi Gung exercises are single movements repeated multiple times. The Equine Chi Gung movements are less elaborate than the Equine Tai Chi Form and may be easier for some of your students to learn.
We'll learn how to have our body in the optimum position to promote the smooth flow of Chi through our body and simple exercises to help us keep our body in alignment so our bodies and minds benefit from our Chi practice.
3. Taoist Breathing
Taoist breathing lowers blood pressure, calms anxieties, reduces stress and gives your nerves a way to discharge accumulated tension.
Breathing well improves the functioning of your body and clears your mind while balancing your emotions. It gives you mental strength and allows your mind to settle and concentrate. The strength and weakness of your breath is a good indicator of how you feel physically and emotionally.
Breathing lets you concentrate on what you are doing without becoming distracted.
Taoist Breathing can teach you to be aware of what is happening in different parts of your body. When you are aware or present to your body and your mind, it becomes easier to identify what needs to be changed. The first step to resolving an emotion is to become aware of your experience. When you are fully aware of how you feel, you can change how you feel.
Deep breathing gives you a way of staying present, without running back to the past in your mind or imagining some future fearful event. You can use your breath at any time to bring you back to the present, especially if you find yourself In a crisis.
Breathing is a wonderful tool to use because it is something we do all the time anyway and it involves no obvious outward physical movement.
Breathing helps to keep your organs moving. Many of your organs are directly attached to your diaphragm. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, our emotions are directly linked to our organs. You need the movement of your diaphragm in order to be able to transmute the movement of the lungs opening and closing, to create a massaging movement for the rest of the internal organs.
How long is the Program?
The Program has three core Modules, each four weeks long.
Every week, you'll be given exercises to practice from the difference practices in the Program;- Interactive Equine Tai Chi, Interactive Equine Chi Gung, Taoist Breathing.
Then there will be another four weeks to complete practice lessons with some friends or students.
What is required to become a Certified Interactive Equine Tai Chi Instructor?
This Program is for people who are already qualified Therapeutic riding instructors or Equine Therapists who would like to add Interactive Equine Tai Chi Therapy as part of their integrated services.
To be eligible for certification you will need to send videos of yourself practicing Interactive Equine Tai Chi.
Six videos should be sent in, but depending on how you get on, you may be asked to review parts of your practice, and send in a further video. This is all part of learning and training and it is to help you! It is ideal to send in a video every two weeks!
Every two weeks for the duration of the Program there will be a live Zoom Call.
On the call we review and practice the Interactive Equine Tai Chi Form and the other exercises in the Program and help with any questions.
If at the end of your videos series, you demonstrate that you have practiced sufficiently to have enough skill and a good understanding of Interactive Equine Tai Chi, you will be Certified By Distance as an Interactive Equine Tai Chi Instructor, and will receive a Certificate to indicate this. This certificate will remain valid for two years, after which you will be required to submit another video of yourself practicing, in order to keep your certification up to date. It will be required to re-certify every two years.
An important part of the training is attending the weekly Challenges in our online Forum.
To help learn the material in the course, you’re given a weekly Challenge with just a few new things to learn each week about your alignments and internal connections, so it is step by step. This is as well as learning the actual Equestrian Tai Chi exercises. Then you’re asked to write a short description of your practice in the Forum on three separate days!
For the Written Work for the course, you'll be asked to answer a short open book Questionnaire and to give 3 lessons to a student and write up a Lesson Plan and Review for them.
This is to help you and to ensure you have understood the main important points. You will be given the information on this, and asked to write it in your own words!
The Lesson Plans and Reviews are to get you established in planning your lessons and reviewing them. This way you will get to deliver interesting helpful lessons, that your students and their horses will enjoy and benefit from.
The time it would take to take part in this course each week is about an hour four or five times a week. This will give you time to watch the videos, learn the exercises and practice them and write about your practice in the challenge Forum! There might seem like a lot of things to learn, but all of the videos and lessons are short.
