The Heart-Mind (Hsin in Chinese) is the centre of our awareness.
The Heart-Mind is regarded as being very important in Taoism. It is much more than just a combination of our emotions and our head, as the translated name in English might imply.
It is where our knowing and intent comes from before thought or language is formed.
Our Middle Tantien is said to be the location of our Heart-Mind. Our Middle Tantien is located in the centre of our body, equidistant from the front and back near our heart.
Our Heart-Mind is what gives us the ability to perceive all and everything. The Heart-Mind has increasingly subtle levels of awareness.
It is through our Heart-Mind that we can perceive our Essence. Our Essence is who we are, independent of any incarnation or aspect of our current life.
Our Heart-Mind is how we mediate and experience, our relationship with everything, even our relationship with ourselves, even our relationship with our Heart-Mind!
Our Heart-Mind is our awareness of the energetic capacities associated with our heart and how they affect the layers of our consciousness.
Our Heart-Mind is not for categorizing or analyzing, that is not its work.
Intent comes from the Heart-Mind, a deeper level of intent than the ordinary intent that comes from the conscious mind. Our knowing comes from our Heart-Mind before thoughts are formed. It is our Heart-Mind that allows the thoughts to come into being and to arrive in our minds.
Our Heart-Mind can be called spirit. It can be called a gateway to spirit
It is our Heart-Mind that gives us the awareness to perceive the layers of our energy field, our energy channels and Tantiens. As the subtlety of our awareness of them increases, we go to deeper levels of awareness of the Heart-Mind.
When a certain degree of our Heart-Mind is activated and awakened, spaciousness opens up inside of us. This sense of spaciousness is a prelude to Emptiness, when the sense of us being separate to everything starts to fall away.
Like our Essence at its deepest level, our Heart-Mind is beyond polarity. It is neither Yin nor Yang, yet it can contain both Yin and Yang. For it to be able to perceive that which is beyond polarity, it needs to be beyond polarity itself.
