Both palms are at hip height, with palms facing downwards either side of your centre line.

(a) As you turn your waist to the left, turn your hands so they so they are both palm up.
(b) As you turn your waist to the right, separate your hands by extending your right hand upwards in an arc to the right, with its fingertips pointing 45 degrees to the right. Extend your left hand back to the left, with its palm facing 45 degrees to the left.
